I'm working on a 2008 MacBook (unibody), 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB Ram, OS X 10.6.8, iMovie '11 (9.0.4) - never had any problems loading the contour MOVs into iMovie... But I know that friends of mine had the same problem. You could try Mpeg Streamclip to convert to mp4 (download here http://www.squared5.com/ )...
